Beauty in the “House” by Ardith McCann

Beauty in the “House” For those of you following my adventures in beauty while self-healing—perhaps because you yourself are challenged with a chronic ailment of the GI type—here is what is up with me. Dr. Gregory House, I Presume? Uh, no. But I am putting my best investigative skills toward better understanding and treating my disease. At this point my symptoms point more to Crohn’s than Celiac, or perhaps I have some wonderful hybrid version (wouldn’t that just be my luck). I am pretty sure my diagnosis and treatment will shift as it always did for the TV show character…and presumably with less trauma and a far better outcome for the patient. This past week I was blessed with four Read More

Reaching A Truce With My Skincare and Beauty Regime By Ardith McCann

If you are a minimalist and realistic like my beautiful friend Ardith, then you will enjoy reading this article by her.  She always inspires me to go above and beyond and we learn from each other. I am so happy to have met such a lovely soul, thank you Ardith ! Amy There is always something to learn, especially about yourself, within the beauty universe. It certainly is never dull. Take your skin, for example. Unless you are the rare creature who was born with perfect skin and you still have it to this day, it changes over time. It will let you think you’ve mastered it for a time, but your skin generally is just lulling you into a Read More

Beauty in the Age of Celiac Disease by Ardith McCann

The Rollercoaster Welcome everyone to February, 2019 style. This month is like a box of weather chocolates, eh? You just never know what you are really going to get from year to year. This year is clearly no exception. From a Polar Vortex to lots of rain to a rollercoaster of daily temperatures, it’s a wild ride for sure. For me, coming out of January is like reaching a calm section of that rollercoaster ride. After three weeks of excruciating, unidentified illness so intense I was convinced at least four times that I was dying, I am off that scary ride and now trying to embrace the teacup version I seem to be on now. Since the local “health” clinic Read More

Affordable Beauty: The clothing Challenge | By Ardith McCann

As I post here on Amy Miranda Makeup about affordable beauty and skincare topics, it seems appropriate to talk about another aspect of beauty and style, aka clothing. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been very budget-friendly wardrobe challenged. Quite honestly, I’ve been downright frustrated in my pursuit of summer clothing items to add to my capsule wardrobe (the one I so successfully created back in 2012). Flailing at Windmills I often feel like Don Quixote, flailing my digital-money sword against retail clothing windmills. I feel alone in my shopping constraints and experiences, especially when I compare myself to style bloggers I follow and their commenters. Doesn’t anyone else feel as I do? Everywhere I turn, style bloggers are Read More

Itty Bitty Beauty Budget Bits | by Ardith McCann

The only budget smaller than my beauty and skincare budget is what I can cough up for new shoes. After decades of splurging for brands like Lancome and Caudelie, my new beauty hunts are CVS and Walmart, Amazon, and Pinterest (for DIY recipes).  I have attempted many times to McGyver my way to homemade beauty remedies, but honestly I fail every time. I have learned that my skin hates coconut oil, that rosehip oil does nothing at all, that Castille soap drives me crazy with its scum property and the fact that it clogs my pores. I gave up my dream of making my own foaming facial cleanser because every single recipe calls for that darn Castille soap! I’ve learned Read More
